The #Single Project

Building on my interest in family change over the life course, I am expanding my research agenda to a new venue focusing on the demography and sociology of "singlehood."

Demographically, I am interested in the definition and measurement of "singlehood" in academic and public discourses. My goal is to develop a new conceptual framework for measuring and defining who is single and how different definitions might lead us to different demographic conclusions  (I presented preliminary results at PAA2023 and will present advanced results at EPC 2024).

Sociologically, I am interested in the heterogeneity within the single population from historical, life course, and cross-national perspectives, and I am eager to explore how demographic, social, economic, and cultural forces shape different experiences of singlehood and unequal outcomes for different groups of singles.
